Nutrition

Per-player energy and macro targets from a published RMR equation, meal-plan templates that scale to each player, body-composition tracking and daily hydration.

App page: Nutrition.html

What it is

The Nutrition page is where the club sets each player's daily energy, macro and hydration targets, builds meal plans once and scales them per player, records weigh-ins and body composition, and checks who is under target today.

When you use it

Targets are set once per player and revisited when body composition moves. Templates are built at the start of a block and assigned per day or per day type. The squad tabs — hydration, anthropometrics, supplements — are the daily read: who logged nothing, who is below target, whose weigh-in is overdue.

How it works

Pick a player from the roster. The left column lists the squad grouped by position, with their current plan. Everything in the Individual plan tab is that player's.

Set the targets. In Set targets you enter the anthropometrics (sex, weight, height, age, body fat %), choose an RMR model, and the page computes RMR → TDEE → kcal target. Macros and hydration come pre-filled with a starting point you can overwrite. Manual override freezes the numbers so a later weigh-in does not recalculate them.

Build templates, assign them scaled. Plan templates holds reusable meal plans — meals, foods and quantities, with the day type they belong to. Assigning a template to a player multiplies every quantity by a scale factor, suggested automatically from the template's base kcal and that player's kcal target.

Record weigh-ins. Add weigh-in stores weight, body fat % and the method used (scale, skinfold, BIA or DEXA). Lean mass is derived, not typed. The chart plots the last 12 weeks of weight, body fat % and lean mass against the body-fat target.

Read the squad tabs. Hydration lists intake against target for today. Anthropometrics is the latest body composition per player with the date it was measured. Supplements lists what each player's assigned plan contains.

Watch the flags. Flags & referrals raises what needs a decision: no target set, no body-comp data, weigh-in overdue, body fat above target, under or over kcal today, low hydration.

Key concepts

The RMR models. Resting metabolic rate is an estimate, and which equation you pick changes the number. Five are available, with the inputs each one needs:

ModelNeedsNote
Ten-Haafweight, height, age, sexDefault. Most accurate and consistent in athletes (80% within ±10% of measured).
Cunninghamweight, body fat %Best for high muscle mass — works off lean body mass. ACSM-endorsed.
De Lorenzoweight, heightAthlete-specific; no sex term.
Harris-Benedictweight, height, age, sexClassic 1918 equation, general population.
Mifflin-St Jeorweight, height, age, sexThe clinical standard — tends to underestimate in athletes.

If the inputs a model needs are missing, the page says which ones rather than computing on a gap.

RMR, TDEE and the kcal target. RMR is what the body burns at rest. TDEE = RMR × activity factor (1.6 by default) is the daily expenditure. The kcal target starts from TDEE and is yours to move — that is where a deficit or a surplus is expressed.

The suggested macros are a starting point, not a prescription. Protein 1.8 g/kg, fat 1.0 g/kg, carbohydrate whatever kcal remain, hydration 35 ml/kg. Every one of them is editable. They are pre-filled so the form is never blank, not because the club should keep them.

The scale factor. A template written for 3 000 kcal assigned to a player whose target is 3 600 is scaled ×1.2, and every quantity in it moves with that. One template serves the whole squad. If the player has no kcal target, or the template has no base kcal, the factor stays ×1 and the page says so.

Lean mass is derived. weight × (1 − body fat %). Recording weight and body fat % is enough; lean mass follows and is never typed by hand.

Hydration falls back to 35 ml/kg. If a player has no hydration target set, the hydration tab compares intake against 35 ml per kg of body weight so the column is never empty.

FAQ

Which RMR model should we use? Ten-Haaf unless you have a reason not to — it is the default because it is the most accurate in athletes. Cunningham if you have reliable body-fat data and the player carries a lot of muscle. Avoid Mifflin-St Jeor for athletes: it underestimates.

Why did the kcal target change on its own? A new weigh-in recalculates the chain. Tick Manual override on the target to stop that.

Can one meal plan serve the whole squad? Yes — that is what the scale factor is for. Write it once with its base kcal and assign it; each player gets it scaled to their own target.

Where does body fat % come from? Whatever method you record with the weigh-in: scale, skinfold, BIA or DEXA. The page stores the method alongside the value, because a skinfold number and a DEXA number are not interchangeable.

A player has no data — what shows? The flags say exactly which piece is missing (no target, no weigh-in, overdue weigh-in) instead of leaving a blank card.
